Meet the panelists: Jarod, Jennifer, Jennifer, Vanessa
Jarod is a senior from Buffalo, New York and is pursuing a Bachelor's in Piano Performance at the Shepherd School of Music and a master's in public health at UTHealth. Jarod is the Vice President of Coalition Rice Against Hunger and Homelessness, an Academic Fellow and Peer Academic Advisor at Jones Residential College, and recepient of the Sviatoslav Richter Fund for Music Outreach. Outside of school, he enjoys teaching piano, exercising, and playing board and video games.
Jennifer is a Rice senior at McMurtry college. She is double majoring in Social Policy Analysis and Health Sciences, and minoring in Biochemistry & Cell Biology. Her extracurriculars include the Rice Coalition on Hunger and Homelessness, working as an America Reads tutor, and conducting clinical research in the Texas Medical Center. Outside of school, Jennifer enjoys playing ukulele poorly, board games with friends, and roller skating.
Jennifer is a sophomore from Montgomery, New Jersey pursuing a degree in Computer Science from Rice University. She is heavily involved in Rice’s women in computer science club as the External President and enjoys contributing to her residential college’s government by being a committee head for the McMurtry Associate’s Committee. She enjoys running, hiking, spending time with her friends and family, and listening to all sorts of music.
Vanessa is a sophomore from Austin, Texas. She is currently studying Bioengineering at the Rice University George R. Brown School of Engineering, and is very interested in creating low-cost medical devices for underserved countries after she finishes school. Vanessa is involved in several professional organizations, serving as Treasurer for the Society of Women Engineers, External Affairs Chair for Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, and an active member of Rice BMES. She has also co-founded a tutoring company, works as a Technology TA for Rice professors, and writes for Rice Catalyst, a peer-edited science research journal. When she's not studying, Vanessa loves to play sand volleyball, go running around campus, and create mashups of rap and acoustic songs.
