Meet the panelists: Shayna, Marco, Kaili, Bhav, Dana
Shayna is a sophomore from New Jersey. They are currently ambitiously pursuing a Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering and double majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (Course 2A and 6-2 in MIT-speak). They are minoring in Science, Technology, and Society (STS) studies with a focus on MIT history and tech ethics. During the school year, Shayna is an Associate Advisor for first-year students, a moderator of the MIT Minecraft Project, publicity director for a few clubs, informal recruitment coordinator for their sorority Delta Phi Epsilon, involved in the Dormitory Committee of student government, and writes both a blog and research papers on MIT culture on the side. Outside of school, they can be usually found working on a technical maker side project or trying new hobbies to learn skills.
Marco is a sophomore from New York City in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department. He is pursuing a BSc in Computer Science and Engineering along with an Entrepreneurship and Innovation minor. Marco's focus on campus is how to effect social change with computer science and robotics; he's worked on autonomous, low-computation drones, prototyped a self-driving ATM for communities with deficient access to banking services, and is currently helping create curriculum to educate middle school students about artificial intelligence. Additionally, he is on the exec board for the Association of Taiwanese Students and enjoys cooking and thrifting.
Kaili is a sophomore at MIT from Ann Arbor, MI. She is pursuing a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering with a focus in biomechanics and a minor in Japanese. Kaili is a part of AFROTC and the varsity lightweight womens’ crew team at MIT, as well as in Global Health Alliance and has a UROP at the Biomechatronics Group at the MIT Media Lab. She enjoys cooking, traveling, and spending time with her friends.
Bhav is currently a second-year undergraduate student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) studying Computer Science, Brain & Cognitive Sciences, and Management. He has a deep interest in leadership, healthcare, research, and innovation. At MIT, he is affiliated with the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research (WIBR) and Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). Additionally, he dances on MIT’s Bhangra dance team, serves as a counselor for Camp Kesem, and teaches community health classes to Boston-area organizations. Outside of school, he enjoys playing tennis and ping pong, watching movies, and spending time in the city!
Dana is a freshman from Los Angeles County, California studying computation and cognition at MIT with a minor in global languages. At MIT, she is part of the Office of Minority Education Interphase EDGE 2020 cohort, the Tutmonda learning community focused on global studies, and the MIT Sport Taekwondo Team. She will also soon be working on the MIT App Inventor Team. Outside of school, she enjoys baking, martial arts, crocheting, and watching movies with friends.
