Meet the panelists: Jonathan, Alexandra, Hyunwoo, Annika, and Samuel
Jonathan is a sophomore from Houston, TX pursuing a B.S. in Applied Mathematics and Statistics and a B.A. in Economics with a minor in Accounting and Financial Management. Jonathan is a member of the Hopkins Varsity Baseball Team as well as an active member in the Johns Hopkins Student Athlete Advisory Committee, VP of the Hopkins Student Wind Energy Team, and the Data & Finance Officer for the Hopkins consulting group. Jonathan also does economic research for Prof. Steve Hanke and performs an independent study for Carl Liggio in Electricity Markets and the Commercial Management of Power Plants. Outside of school Jonathan enjoys working out, hiking, fishing, and driving.
Alexandra is a junior from Saint Petersburg, Florida in the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences at Johns Hopkins University. She is pursuing a Bachelor's in Economics, with minors in Business and Spanish. Alexandra is a research analyst for Professor Steve Hanke at the Institute for Applied Economics, Global Health, and the Study of Business Enterprise and is also the Chief Operating Officer of JHU's chapter of Smart Woman Securities. Outside of school, she enjoys working out, baking, trying new local restaurants, and swimming.
Hyunwoo is a sophomore from Palo Alto, California and is majoring in International Studies and Economics. Outside of academics, he is part of the Hopkins Varsity Baseball team as a pitcher and is a clarinetist in the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra. Hyunwoo is also a board member of the Korean student association (KSA), which is one of the culture clubs at JHU. Music and sports make up most of his extracurriculars, but he also enjoys traveling and learning languages as hobbies.
Annika is a senior from Hershey, Pennsylvania in the Whiting School of Engineering at Johns Hopkins University. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Annika is the Vice President of the AstroJays Rocketry Team, a subsystem lead on the Hopkins Student Wind Energy Team, President of the JHU Choral Society, and a member of the Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Honors Society. In her free time, Annika likes to draw or paint, play the cello and piano, and spend time with friends.
Samuel is a junior from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is pursuing a double major in economics and international studies. Sam is on the exec board of two organizations on campus. The Hopkins Student Wind Energy Team, a team that competes at the annual Department of Energy Collegiate Wind Competition, and Intervarsity, an on-campus Christian fellowship.

Work Experience: I got my PhD in history from Boston University in 2020. I have worked as a researcher and writer for a Boston-based policy center and am a freelance editor.
My Admissions Story: I remember the admissions process as a time to imagine possible futures (where to live? what to study? who to meet?), though am happy to report (as you can see from my bio) that few of those decisions were set in stone. So have fun and enjoy the ride!
