91 Colleges With Full-Ride Scholarships

What’s Covered:

If you’re a high-achieving student, you’re likely looking to apply to some of the nation’s top colleges. Unfortunately, these prestigious schools are often very expensive. The cost of higher education is becoming increasingly prohibitive, and more and more families struggle to pay tuition. However, some colleges offer full-ride scholarships, meaning all costs of attendance are covered—including housing, meals, transportation, and books. Other schools offer full-tuition scholarships, meaning that they cover everything but the cost of living.

Keep in mind that these generous awards are usually recruitment tools for extremely competitive students who might otherwise enroll elsewhere. For that reason, full-ride scholarships become less common as a school moves up the ranks. Wondering if the schools on your list offer full rides? Here’s a list of 92 colleges where your education could cost you nothing.

Note: While full-tuition scholarships aren’t technically full rides, we’ve included them in this list as another resource, as they still are substantial scholarships. Scholarships will be noted as full-tuition or full-ride in the description.

FAQs About Full-Ride Scholarships

There’s a lot more to know about full-ride scholarships other than that they cover your college expenses.

Do you need a minimum GPA or SAT/ACT score for a full-ride scholarship?

Some full-ride scholarships require recipients to possess a certain GPA or achieve particular test scores, but there’s no hard-and-fast rule that you need to graduate at the top of your class or earn a jaw-dropping score on the SAT/ACT to be considered for a full-ride scholarship. That said, the better your grades and test scores are, the stronger scholarship candidate you become and the less likely you are to fail to qualify for an award.

How competitive are full-ride scholarships?

Full-ride scholarships are extremely competitive and only a very small fraction of college students will earn one. Competition is fierce for full-ride scholarships and even the most impressive college-bound students shouldn’t count on receiving one. According to a 2018 Washington Post article, just 1.5% of undergraduates receive enough funding through scholarships and grants to cover 100% of the cost of attendance.

Which college gives the most full-ride scholarships?

There is no definitive list of colleges that provide the most full-ride scholarships, however, a good alternative metric for cost-conscious college-bound students is to look at the schools that provide the most merit aid. These colleges might not offer the most full-ride scholarships, but they have proven generous in awarding funds and helping their students with the expense of higher education.

Can international students get full-ride scholarships?

International students are eligible to receive many full-ride scholarships. Some awards, like the Makiguchi Scholarship, are even intended specifically for international students. Similar to domestic applicants, competition for full-ride scholarships for international students is exceptionally high, and landing a prized award is very difficult.
