10 Great Nursing Scholarships for Men

The nursing field has traditionally been a female-dominated industry, but that doesn’t mean men should hesitate to pursue their degrees. In fact, there is currently a high demand for male nurses. With that in mind, it’s no surprise that a number of scholarships exist to help male nursing students pay for their degrees. Whether you’re pursuing a RN, LPN, or advanced degree, read on to discover some of the best male nursing scholarships. 

 

1. American Association for Men in Nursing

Amount: Varies based on donations; 4 scholarships are expected for 2021

Deadline: Unknown

Eligibility: 

  • Identify as male
  • Member of the association
  • Enrolled in accredited nursing program

Application Requirements: Process will be announced later this year

 

The American Association for Men in Nursing scholarship is open to male nursing students who are members of the organization, which is dedicated to encouraging men to pursue careers in the field. Additionally, the AAMN strives to support initiatives related to men’s health. While the requirements have yet to be announced for next year, the AAMN plans to hand out four scholarships in 2021. 

 

2. Army Nurse Corps Association 

Amount: $3,000 per selected student

Deadline: Unknown

Eligibility: 

  • Enrolled in accredited undergraduate or graduate nursing program
  • Served or currently serving in US Army
  • Not currently using military funding for school

The Army Nurse Corps Association supports military men in achieving their career dreams. The scholarship is open to active military members and veterans who are currently enrolled in four-year or advanced nursing programs. Note that applicants no longer in the military must have received an honorable discharge. Additionally, ANCA offers grants for nursing research. 

 

3. Nurse Corps Scholarship Program

Amount: Tuition, fees, and monthly stipend

Deadline: Typically late April

Eligibility: 

  • US citizens, nationals, or permanent residents 
  • Enrolled in accredited nursing school and starting classes by September 30
  • Not have federal judgement liens, overdue federal debt, or service commitment
  • Committed to providing primary care in underserved communities

Part of the HRSA Workforce, Nurse Corps offers scholarships and loan repayment options to nurses, nursing students, and nursing faculty. To qualify for the Nurse Corps Scholarship Program, students must demonstrate a commitment to providing underserved communities with primary care. The goal is to find nurses to work at facilities experiencing chronic staffing shortages. 

 

4. National Association of Hispanic Nurses

Amount:. $1000 to $5000

Deadline: Usually November 1

Eligibility: 

  • Identify as Hispanic
  • NAHN members in good standing for 6 months before the application deadline
  • Enrolled full time in accredited nursing school

The National Association of Hispanic Nurses is dedicated to promoting health in Hispanic communities by advocating for and promoting Hispanic nurses. A scholarship specifically for Hispanic nursing students, this award honors individuals who act as role models to their peers. The number of awards given out depends on available funds. Scholarships are handed out at the NAHN Annual Conference.

 

5. National Black Nurses Association, Inc.

Amount: $1,000 to $5,000

Deadline: April 15, 2021

Eligibility: 

  • Identify as Black
  • NBNA local or direct member 
  • Enrolled in accredited nursing school and in good academic standing
  • Have a minimum of 1 year of school left

Founded in 1972, the National Black Nurses Association, Inc., includes 200,000 African American nurses from the USA, Canada, Eastern Caribbean, and Africa. The National Black Nurses Association exists to support Black students interested in nursing careers and promote better healthcare for persons of color. Additionally, the NBNA is dedicated to giving accessibility to Black male nurses.

6. Tylenol Future Care Scholarship 

Amount: 10 $10,000 and 25 $5,000 scholarships

Eligibility: 

  • U.S residents
  • Graduate student or college senior planning to attend grad school
  • Proof of enrollment in medical, nursing, or pharmacy school
  • Have a minimum of 1 year of school left

For nearly 25 years, the TYLENOL® Future Care Scholarship has been helping those interested in healthcare careers pursue their passions. To that end, the organization awards scholarships to talented medical, nursing, and pharmacy school students on a yearly basis. Over the years, the scholarship has given out more than $8 million to those dedicated to a career in caring for others. 

 

7. Coursey Enterprises Student Scholarships

Amount: $500 ($250 in fall and $250 in spring)

Deadline: May 1 for fall; Dec 1 for spring

Eligibility: U.S. citizens who are first-year students training to RNs or LPNs

A medical supplies company, Coursey Enterprises provides scholarships to first-year nursing students. Currently, aspiring male and female nurses can apply for scholarships for both the fall and spring semesters. Awards are available to students seeking to be either a registered nurse or a practical nurse.

 

8. NurseTim®

NurseTim exists to provide hands-on training for nursing educators and learners through both onsite and online opportunities and to give back to those in the field. To that end, the NurseTim Scholarship was created to support minority men who are passionate about nursing careers. Nursing students at all levels are encouraged to apply for the awards, which range from $500 to $5,000.

 

9. Gates Millennium Scholars Program

Amount:  Varies

Deadline: September 15

Eligibility: 

  • High schools seniors who are U.S. citizens
  • Students of color
  • Enrolled in a 2-year or 4-year nursing program
  • Minimum GPA of 3.3
  • Pell Grant applicants

Most people are familiar with the extensive charitable endeavors of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. However, they might not know about the Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program. Founded in 1999, the program exists to support minority students who are passionate about earning a degree in mathematics, sciences, or public health. Along with tuition, the scholarship covers the costs of books, fees, and living expenses. 

 

10. Breaking Barriers: Scholarship for Men in Nursing

Amount: $500

Eligibility: 

  • Male students aged 18 or over

Nursing.org recognizes that nursing is frequently viewed as a career for women.
